Homeschooling can be really daunting and overwhelming! My first few months on this path were a multitude of highs and lows- and my children were only 3 and 4 years old when we decided to "officially" homeschool!

homeschooling, home school, encouragement

I remember sitting on the floor of my lounge amongst a pile of wonderful resources that were recommended to me when we began the journey feeling so small! I remember tears of frustration as I said to my husband that by the time I had read all these books it would be too late! Suddenly something that was a heart's desire became a mammoth task and I felt so utterly incapable!

After a cup of tea and some gentle encouragement from my husband I realised that the only way that I was going to get anywhere was one step at a time! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! I had been standing attacking my proverbial "elephant" wildly with a plastic fork as it towered above me instead of just taking one small step in the right directoin!

Don't get discouraged with the myriad of fabulous resources and curriculum out there, decide what is important to you and begin there.

I will be writing a few pages over the next few weeks about things that have worked for us as a family as far as homeschooling in particular is concerned and I would love it if others could share things that have worked for them too! :-) I often tell people that I am re-doing my education alongside my children- learning, laughing, growing and sometimes stretching! But I wouldn't have it any other way!

"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" Psalm 119:105

This is one of my favourite verses- God doesn't promise us a spotlight into the future, but a lamp unto our feet- to just take the next step! Five years down the line, I still have days when I have to remind myself of that, but that elephant sure is looking a lot smaller!
