Wherever you live, it is possible to incorporate nature activities into your day in simple and fun ways.

I came across this quote which kind of sums up how I feel about where we should start when sharing a wonder for the world around us and God's amazing creation with our children.

"Nature-study is, despite all discussions and perversions, a study of nature; it consists of simple, truthful observations that may, like beads on a string,finally be threaded upon the understanding and thus held together as a logical and harmonious whole." Nature study is something you can implement from a very young age. On one of those days when we all needed a little breathing space I decided that this would be a good time to implement what I had been reading about in Charlotte Mason's books about nature study! One in the pram and one bouncing energetically beside me, we were off on our first official nature walk. We gathered all sorts of treasures and took time to stop and marvel at the ants and the clouds. An hour and a half later and a lot calmer, we arrived home with feathers, grasses, pebbles, leaves and seed pods. I gave each of my children a brush and water colours and they sat for a good time drawing in their notebooks. Not only was it fun, but I have discovered that when I am relaxed and calm, it is much easier to have fun!

My children have grown to love and appreciate the beautiful things in this world through these walks, and I do not think that a day goes by without one of them calling out, "Come look!"
